Consultant Information for

Sonya Pena

Sonya joined Southwest Plains Regional Service in the Fall of 2008. 
Prior to coming to SWPRSC, Sonya was at USD 457, Garden City, 
as a 6th grade math/reading teacher for 5 years and an elementary librarian/6 Trait Writing teacher for 2 years.  
She was the reading teacher at Newton Middle School for 5 years.

Sonya has a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Panhandle State University in Goodwell, OK.  She also received her Elementary Librarian endorsement from Fort Hays State University in Hays, KS, and her ESL endorsement from Kansas State University.

Sonya shares her consulting time with coordinating the Sublette CLC on a part-time basis.
She has been supporting districts with Instructional Coaching as well as the Carl Perkins math and language arts integration project.  She is also operating as ESL support to the districts and helping teachers pass their ESOL Praxis test.  She also assists school districts and their teachers with: mentoring, 6 Trait Writing, curriculum alignment and differentiated instruction.
