Consultant Information for


 

         Sonja Gayer

Sonja is a native of Southwest Kansas and a graduate of Hugoton High School.  She attended Behtany College in Linsborg, Kansas, where she double-majored in Elementary Education and Special Education.  Upon graduating, she returned to Hugoton to work with High Plains Special Education Cooperative.  While in Hugton, she taught Kindergarten, Third grade, Fifth grade math and PE.

Sonja was a Kansas Teacher of the Year semi-finalist in 1997, a Teacher of Year Regional semi-finalist in 1998, and was awarded the 2008 Challenge Award presented by the Confidence in Kansas Public Education Task Force.

Sonja joined SWPRSC in 2010 as a PERK Literacy Coach.

Sonja is interested in sharing information regarding how teachers can increase student success by making small changes within their classroom.  Effective instructional planning, creating a positive learning environment, ensuring quality lessons that are focused on standards, and demonstrating multiple ways to incorporate technology simply and seamlessly into lessons are other topics that Sonja enjoys sharing with educators.
