Cyberbullying
PROTECTING YOUR STUDENTS and YOUR DISTRICT
On February 26, 2008, the Kansas House passed a bill to incorporate cyberbullying into the current antibullying law , HB-68, that became effective January 1, 2008. The bill added electronic threats made through blogs, cell phones, pagers, e-mails, instant messaging, text messaging, online games or through websites.
- This bill leaves schools vulnerable to an array of lawsuits from parents whose children have been victims of cyberbullying or bullying. School districts are being sued successfully at an increasing rate as a result of student bullying and cyberbullying. Administrators need to become knowledgeable of the law and ensure that their staff are trained to control these potentially volatile situations in a professional and legally appropriate manner.
- SWPRSC offers trainings that focus on the cyberbullying addition to the HB-68 bill, the effect it will have on your district and the policy changes districts are required to make.
