Grant Writing: Celebrations

Story image 1

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Scott City for their successful 21st Century Community Learning Center After-School grant.  Their proposal was slated for approval at the July State Board of Education meeting.  With this grant, the elementary school in Scott City will be able to coordinate an after-school program for their students that will combine elements of tutoring, hands-on academic enrichment, and wellness activities.  Congratulations to Shawn Roberts, principal, for all her hard work and vision to make this program come to life.

Congratulations to Dev Bernbeck and Joe Coles, coordinator and director of the Generation Fitness federal PE grant.  They received word that their program will receive complete funding again next year.  This program provides PE teachers in partner districts access to state-of-the-art equipment, professional development, and research.  Congratulations to the PEP team for all their hard work and successes.

The following grants were awarded during the April State Board of Education meeting.

Congratulations to the participating districts and their planning team members.

  • DEERFIELD and TRIPLAINS/HEALY public school districts have submitted successful Technology-Rich Classroom grants through the state EETT program.  These grants will provide computers, digital cameras, interactive white boards and projectors, and other technology in four elementary classrooms per grant.  Just as important, the participating teachers will receive ongoing, intensive professional development to learn how to effectively utilize that equipment in their instruction.  We are excited to see how this program affects student interaction and learning at these new TRC sites.

  • ULYSSES public schools has submitted a successful petition to establish the Ulysses Career Learning Academy charter school.  The new high school program will open its doors in August 2008.  Students enrolling in the new school will participate in individualized learning plans that will highlight a multi-year spiraling employability curriculum.  Graduates from the charter school will be prepared to enter both the world of work and take advantage of post-secondary opportunities.  This particular school was designed to meet specific local student needs, and the businesses and organizations in the community have pledged great support to ensure this school succeeds.
